One of the things that I am learning along this road I travel with my sweet mom is that the older memories are the last ones to leave; but, the ability to recount and express these stored up stories does slowly slip away. I find myself wishing I had written down more of the stories that my parents and grandparents told through the years.
My blog is my tool for journaling about my life as a caregiver for my mom. I live every day wondering whether my children will ever have to care for me in this same fashion. According to medical science, the probability is very real. If Alzheimer’s is my fate down the road, I truly hope that what I have taken the time to record will give my own kids a little window into my world, and a few clues as to what I found to be helpful.
Since you’re reading this, I think it’s safe to surmise that you know that my blog is called Barefoot Lily Lady. You can read about the “why” of that name here. But maybe you’ve never noticed that little byline right under my blog name. My purpose in this line is to briefly state the reason for my blog. It goes like this:
Before I Forget: Sharing my love for God, family, gardens and my sweet Momma
Yes! I forgot to add sugar to my first cherry pie and my sweet loving Daddy ate it just The way you described….with spooning sugar onto each bite! Golden memories of our beloved families! Thanks for sharing! Love you!

This little story came up in my “memories” feed on my Barefoot Lily Lady Facebook page, so I thought I’d re-share it. I wrote this three years ago, so it might be time for another baked custard too.
