Our garden greeted us with a few new splashes of color as we pulled into our neighborhood after being away for 12 days. First to catch my eye in the newly created flowerbed in the front yard was a little group of purple columbine happily dancing in the breeze.

In that same flowerbed, I could see that our new Magnolia ‘Elizabeth’ tree had grown a bit and leafed out while we were away. The hydrangeas we planted at the front of that bed are also flourishing…thanks to my daughter Elisabeth, who tended to my garden’s watering needs whilst we were galivanting around in West Virginia and Ohio.

Hoping for blossoms next spring!
My little stand of poppies waved their annual pop of orange at us as we pulled further up the driveway. Poppies exude a certain kind of whimsy with their wonky, twisty stems. I think I love the stems as much as the amazing flower.

The lilacs are in full bloom…so glad we didn’t miss their show this year!

A few of our tree peonies started their show without us, but there was plenty of the show left to see once we got home.

It looks like we made it home in the nick of time to catch the first act of the German bearded iris show too. Can’t wait for more of the performers to make their debut!

Well, I better get back to my post-vacation unpacking and laundry! But, if you’d like to stick around and wander through a few more gardens, let me invite you to join the Six on Saturday garden tour hosted by Jim. Just follow this link to the garden tour entrance: http://gardenruminations.co.uk
Cindie, your garden had quite the show when you returned home. Peonies, lilacs, irises…beautiful!!

Thanks, Pam! It sure did. The weeds are also playing supporting roles and as extras, but I can deal with them later. 😏

Go h-álainn, a chara! Going away is all very fine, but coming home is just great too.
I like the lilac. Don’t have one here as its a bit big for my space, but neighbour has it. Great scent and the butterflies love it.
