Is it lavender-purple, or deep pink? Paeonia ‘Kamata Nishiki’ may have me wondering about her color, but there’s nothing to wonder about where her beauty is concerned.

This year she’s my first peony to bloom and she doesn’t seem to mind sharing the spotlight with a plentitude of irises that are unfurling their lovely petals.

We originally planted three tree peonies back in 2018. Only one survived that winter. I took advantage of the company’s replacement policy—they honored their word and sent two more.

Of those two replacements, Miss ‘Nishiki’ is the only one still strutting her stuff 7 years later.

I would be very happy to have her stick around for many more years to come.
Miss Nishiki is a beauty as are the irises! Peonies are some of the most beautiful blooms in the garden! They have a short bloom season, so we must enjoy while we can!

They really are SO pretty. I like to plant several peony types to get a progression of blooms and extend the gorgeous season just a tad.

I’d say Miss Nishiki is magenta colour. I bought a root peony Doreen in the Autumn and she is in a pot with her name on. She grew, but no blooms. Do you know how many years till they bloom?

I know that when I plant a division of an existing peony, I may not get blooms until the third growing season. I’ve never grown a peony from bareroot, so am not sure if that timeline would be different. It’s also important to pay attention to planting depth. The eye needs to be just below the surface of the soil. Planting too deeply can impede blooming. I have several ‘Doreen’ peonies–she is a beauty, so I hope she blooms for you very soon.

Thank you! Yes, I chose it because of the beautiful fragrance. I followed the instructions for planting. But it’s okay. I’m happy to wait. 🙂
