It’s sometimes hard for me to study at home. There’s always something calling my name. It might be the washing machine telling me it’s time to throw in another load of dirty laundry…or transfer the clean laundry to the dryer. Sometimes it’s the voice of dust on the coffee table (or any other flat surface in my house) saying, “Dust me! Now!” And, more often than I’d like to admit, it’s something in the refrigerator calling my name and saying, “Eat me! Eat me!”
You get the idea. It doesn’t take much to distract me from what I intend to do, so it’s sometimes best to silence all those urgent voices and steal myself away to neutral ground. The library is my favorite place to go for that undistracted quietude.
Saturday morning I decided to go find a quiet study spot at the Verona Public Library.

It’s a lovely place with plenty of comfy study spots. My favorite chair overlooks a beautiful bit of Badger Prairie County Park, a 317-acre slice of the Ice Age Scenic Trail.

Before I left the house I threw my boots and a warmer jacket in the car and once again purposed in my heart that I would take a walk in the park after my study time and before heading home to attend to the tyranny of the urgent.
This winter walking thing is growing on me.
We received a few inches of snow overnight, so it truly was incredibly beautiful. Based upon the footprints in the snow, there were plenty of others who had the same idea as me. I appreciated the fact that they blazed the trail before me and I could see where to place my feet.

It was simply amazing.

Almost 4,000 steps later, I returned to my car. Blissfully serene, refreshed in spirit, and praising God for His beautiful world.

How lovely is thy dwelling place!
